Like most technologies, vacuums have come a long way. From being too bulky and heavy, and needingto be dragged around in the house with an unwieldy plastic hose – now, you don’t even need to get off the couch to clean. Thanks to robot vacuums (or robovacs), we’re spared of the tedious and time-consuming job of vacuuming. They are autonomous, and are equipped not just with suction motor and brushes, but also with sensors, motherboards and lasers. Robovacs are still relatively new, but more and more households are using it. Most of them can be pre-set, while many can even be controlled remotely using a smartphone app via Wi-Fi or smart home assistants like Google Home and Amazon Alexa. Here are some of the best robot vacuums you can find on the market:
1. Eufy RoboVac 11
The Eufy RoboVac 11 is an entry-level robot vacuum, but earned the top spot because it can clean just as well as other higher-end models. If you’re on a budget and you want to keep your floors clean with minimal effort, this one’s the best robot vacuum to pick. This model is quiet, efficient and can work continuously up to 1.5 hours at full charge. It is simple to use as you can either press the Auto button to get started, or use the remote control with a directional pad and play/pause button at the center. It might not be accessible through Wi-Fi control or any advanced navigation, the RoboVac 11 performs as well as the others at nearly half the price.
2. iRobot Roomba 960
Roomba is a brand synonymous to robot vacuums, and the iRobot Roomba 960 is one of its best models for the price. It has Wi-Fi connectivity on 2.4GHz band and can be controlled through the iRobot Home app available in Google Play and Apple App Store, and the Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control. Controls can be found on the front face of the unit, which includes a large Clean button, as well as Home and Spot Cleaning buttons. This model is efficient for cleaning large homes and sucking up a lot of pet hair out of carpets, and has a sophisticated navigation system that allows you to clean your home room by room without missing a spot. It can even show you the places the robot has vacuumed using its Clean Map feature, as well as the detailed statistics about every cleaning session on its Lifetime Performance menu. This robovac can finish a 70-minute cleaning cycle without getting stuck or quitting, and its overall performance is reasonable for the price.
3. iRobot Roomba 980
The iRobot Roomba 980 is iRobot’s best robotic vacuum yet, but its significantly high price for the additional features made us place this model in a rank below the Roomba 960. The Roomba 980 has a powerful motor than the 960, and comes with two virtual walls, while the 960 only has one. Also, this model can work up to 90 minutes, which is longer than the 960. Besides that, both have the same smart features such as app control, Alexa or Google Home compatibility. This unit boasts of great suction performance, as it can easily transition between different types of flooring. However, it’s too expensive for its features.
4. EcoVacs Deebot N79
The EcoVacs Deebot N79 is a great, yet inexpensive, smart robovac. This robot is quick enough to navigate most rooms without getting stuck, and is quick and persistent in keeping floors tidy. It features smartphone app integration, and you can set it up easily with a 2.4GHz internet connection. However, it’s not compatible with third party services like Alexa and Google Home. Users love its value for money and its quiet yet effective operation.
5. Eufy RoboVac 11c
The Eufy RoboVac 11c is a smarter, connected version of the Robovac 11. For $50 more than its basic 11 version, you can avail an affordable robot vacuum that is compatible with smartphones and third-party voice commands like Alexa and Google Home. When using the Wi-Fi to control it, simply download the free EufyHome app available for both Android and iOS. Like its predecessor, the RoboVac 11c is steady and efficient, providing great suction performance for a lower price than its competitors. It is reliable for picking up all types of dirt and debris, as well as in navigating different floor types. It’s also quiet and handles dark flooring well. However, just don’t expect more advanced features that you can find in more expensive models.
6. iRobot Roomba 690
Offering lots of functionality for an affordable price, the iRobot Roomba 690 is impressive. This is an entry-level Roomba, but it doesn’t only feature Wi-Fi connectivity – it also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, just like the high-end Roomba models. It has a powerful suction and performance comparable to the Eufy RoboVac 11 and 11c, and it can clean continuously for 70 minutes. If the RoboVac 11’s lack of voice control option bothers you, the iRobot Roomba 690 is the model to pick.
7. Neato Botvac Connected
The Neato Botvac Connected boasts of its signature LaserSmart area mapping and intelligent navigation technology, combined with its specially designed extraction system. It has a unique D–shaped design that enables it to clean hard-to-reach corners. It’s one of the robovacs that has the longest battery life, as it can work for 120 minutes at Eco mode. It can be controlled through the Neato app over a Wi-Fi connection, as well as through Amazon Alexa. Through the app, it can show a map where the vacuum has already cleaned. It’s a powerful and advanced robot vacuum, but it has a bit pricey for a robot vacuum cleaner given its features.
8. Neato Botvac D5 Connected
If you need an all-around robot vacuum with accurate laser navigation, the Neato Botvac D5 Connected is for you. It’s a bit cheaper than the Botvac Connected, and has shorter battery life of 90 minutes. Its best feature is its amazing navigation, as it can reliably glide over different surfaces with no difficulty, unlike other robovacs that trips on darker flooring or rugs. In terms of suction power, it can pick up all stubborn dirt and hair that comes across its path. It can be connected over Wi-Fi and can be controlled over the Neato app from Android or iOS devices. Its overall performance can be comparable to the Roomba 960, but it doesn’t have voice control and cleaning maps.
9. Samsung Powerbot R7070
Samsung makes this list with the Powerbot R7070 – a strong, robot cleaner that can suck up more dust, dirt and debris on different flooring surfaces. It’s one of the best at picking up food scraps and pet hair, even those that are in the corners. It is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung’s own SmartThings connected home system. One big drawback of this model is that it struggles with common household hazards more than other robovacs. It’s more likely to get itself stuck on a stray cord and rug fringes, and can drag throw rugs around the room.
10. Dyson 360 Eye
When the world leader for high-end upright vacuums foray into robotics, they produce powerful robovacs like the Dyson 360 Eye. At first look, the 360 Eye is taller and bulkier than most robot vacuums – and that is because it uses the same motor and full-size brush like that of a Dyson upright, and it also uses track-like wheels. It has a powerful suction power comparable to a good plug-in or cordless vacuum. But its navigation system is not as reliable as others; the 360-degree panoramic view provided by its camera doesn’t limit where it goes, so you have to be careful in running it in dangerous places like the top of the stairs. Also, it has a high price tag compared to other vacuums that can offer the same cleaning performance.
